Shanghai students began their new school term on Monday with brand-new yellow school buses.
A total of 370 buses, owned by the city's kindergarten, elementary and high schools, have been painted an orange-yellow color and labeled with a "school bus" sign. Each bus is also equipped with seat belts and fire extinguishers.
Meanwhile, another 1,000 or so school buses that are rented by schools have had the "school bus" sign stuck on the front and rear windows.
Besides this, all drivers are to undergo safety training and must pass a relevant test, according to new government regulations.
The move is part of the Shanghai government's efforts to enhance school bus safety.
Statistics from the Shanghai Education Commission show that the city's school buses carry over 60,000 students each day.
